New gadgets vrs old fasioned fun?

I have been thinking about this for quite sometime now. Everyone in my household owns an Apple I-touch. I am the only one who does not have one. I keep thinking that if I get one that I am moving forward with too much technology. In a way I want to stay with tradition and simplicity if I can. I think that if I choose not to get one then I can say I am not “acting smart” with the latest technology gadgets. But come on, my six year old has one!!! When her birthday was coming up in March my husband and I were trying to decide on a birthday gift for her. It was a toss up between one of those new 10 inch laptops or an I-touch. This has me thinking what ever happened to the days of Barbie dolls, bouncing balls, skipping ropes, etc… I am guilty for buying her the technological gadgets, however I also find a balance with the “old fashioned” fun that kids have. Just a thought for the day…and yes I do enjoy using their I-touch gadgets…lol!

Til next time…

My kids are both babies so I am not getting the pressure to buy the latest gadgets…yet. I don’t ever want my children to be left out so I am willing to invest in new technology but I hope they still like playing with balls and matchbox cars. I hope the latest technology does not replace old-fashioned toys.

It is about finding the balance. My boys have some of the technology such as X box, PSP’s, and a recent purchase and I-Pod. Yet, they chose to be outside no matter what the weather. I am so greatful that they prefer to play outside as well as play inside. It will help in creating a well rounded personality and life (at least I am hoping it does). The thing about resisting, as I have been doing, is that it is not doing anything to anyone else but me. I have opened my eyes to the fact that no matter how much I silently protest the huge advances made in technology, I am the only one falling behind. Children of today are so technically literate, they just need a few minutes to be able to use technolgy. I need to get with the times but as I found out this weekend it sure takes time to do that.

I can relate Brandi! My kid is seven and already is more technologically advanced than me. He has his own computer, cell-phone and Mp3 player. As for myself I have been thinking about finally purchasing an Ipod, but I find myself really attched to my creative zen which does everything an ipod can; or at least I think so. The only reason I am thinking about switching is because all of the accessories one can purchase have been designed with the ipod in mind.
